I used to think I was pretty normal, but lately I've noticed that my attention tends to run away from me when there's a good-looking member of the opposite sex present.
What can be done to reduce this irrational behavior due to the presence of the opposite sex?
(e.g., I'm always thinking that the other person might like me, and I can't help but look that way, but nothing happens.)
I could have used the time to read more, but I was a little upset that the "opposite sex attraction" stole my concentration.
I've recently looked up some psychology and puberty related books, but I haven't found any specific solutions, and I've asked a couple of psychologically savvy friends who haven't responded much.
Also read some science that says it's an effect of androgens, but I don't want to deal with it in an extreme way.
Is there any other way to minimize this irrational behavior?
Help is desperately needed!
Hello, dear friend! I'm Takato Emotional Psychology.
I can especially understand your current troubles, and I'll start by giving you a warm hug.
⭕ First of all, I think it's awesome that you're taking the initiative to confront the issue of opposite sex attraction head on.
This phenomenon is actually related to puberty or the onset of love. Many teenagers are unconsciously concerned about their image and the possibility of interaction when they meet a high-profile member of the opposite sex.
This is a normal reaction to puberty, hormones stimulate all kinds of thoughts, don't be too anxious.
⭕ You can pretty much rule out belligerent delusions.
Belligerent delusion is the condition of always thinking that the opposite sex likes you and being convinced of it. From your description, it's more of a somewhat narcissistic tendency.
Narcissism can make us feel prominent in social situations and prone to fantasize about interactions, but this is usually the narcissistic effect at work.
⭕ Advice to go with the flow and be rational.
Each person is unique, but when placed in the larger context of society, we are like a drop of water in the ocean.
So, we can adjust our emotions and thoughts, but we cannot control the outside world. Do your best to be the best you can be, show the positive side, and let the results be what they are.
Let's grow, explore and learn together.
I'm glad to have the chance to meet here.
Go for it! One Heart and I will always support you.
