You may be curious, what exactly does self-empathy mean? How would life change if there was a lack of self-empathy?
Hello everyone, this is Right Yin! Today we're going to talk about the topic of self-empathy.
Often, when we talk about "empathy" we are mostly referring to understanding and caring for others, but very few people emphasize empathy for themselves. This is actually a very common phenomenon, isn't it?
But think about it: if a person can't even empathize with themselves, how can they truly understand others?
Below, I'll share some of my personal thoughts on self-empathy.
♪ What is self-empathy
"Empathy" is simply the ability to deeply experience the feelings of others and understand their situation.
In other words, it's about putting yourself in the other person's shoes and feeling their mood swings, mental states and needs in the context of their current subjective and objective factors.
Through empathy, we tend to develop a deeper understanding and tolerance for others.
Applying this concept to self-empathy is: a deeper understanding of one's inner feelings, psychological condition, and oneself in the current context, thus promoting inner reconciliation and growth.

So, I think self-empathy is really a process of self-awareness, acceptance and regulation that helps us reduce internal conflict and use our energy in more meaningful ways.
Self-awareness (which is the starting point for self-empathy)
self-acceptance
self-regulation
Constantly Improve Yourself
In this way, we can avoid wasting our limited energy on infinite emotional struggles, thus reducing the negative impact on our lives and future.
The goal of each of us is to pursue happiness and fulfillment in life.
In a state of relative inner peace, we can take the initiative to shape the life we want to live, such as cultivating certain traits or hobbies that enhance the quality of our lives.
(That's why self-empathy is really important.)
♪ What does a lack of self-empathy look like
Without self-empathy, it's easy to become mentally and emotionally internally drained. You may have various negative experiences such as anxiety, low self-esteem, fear, avoidance, procrastination, or depression.
These emotions are common in life and can be observed through work, school or everyday instances. However, it is important to note that too much internalization can prevent us from focusing on other things, let alone self-improvement or improving our lives.
Take "The Pursuit of Happiness" for example.
Many people will derive short-lived pleasure by indulging in gaming, gambling, drinking, or even using drugs or habitually criticizing others.
In fact, there are many healthy ways to achieve inner fulfillment in life, but these improper methods can often harm yourself or others.
Without self-empathy and reconciliation, we tend to get stuck in trivialities, subconsciously creating more pain, and it becomes harder to do self-love or pay attention to our legitimate needs.
In a nutshell, self-empathy is about focusing more on yourself, including your inner world, daily life, and social relationships, in order to help yourself improve your mental and physical maladies.
Good luck!
